OUR STORY
At Opal Jewellery Studio, we believe jewellery is more than adornment—it’s a reflection of who you are. Every piece we create is designed to be worn, loved, and infused with meaning.
We craft with intention and artistry. Each design is handmade in our Gabriola Island studio using traditional smithing techniques, honouring the balance between organic beauty and refined craftsmanship.
We are inspired by nature and the cosmos. Flowing water, shifting tides, the glow of the stars—these elements shape our designs, reflected in the curves of silver, the shimmer of gold, and the vibrant hues of hand-selected gemstones.
We honour quality and sustainability. Every piece is made to last, using responsibly sourced materials and ethical practices. We value slow, intentional creation over mass production, ensuring that each design carries the care and craftsmanship it deserves.
We believe in personal connection. Jewellery should feel like an extension of you—whether it’s a talisman of strength, a quiet reminder of love, or a celebration of your unique journey.
This is not just jewellery. This is a story, a ritual, a piece of you.
I’m Taylor Haigh, an artist, jeweller, and tarot creator based on Gabriola Island, BC. My journey in the arts began early—I graduated high school as the recipient of the Dorothy Roberts Scholarship in Art and the District Scholarship in Arts. I went on to study art history and photography at Langara College in Vancouver, attended the foundation year at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, and ultimately earned a Diploma in Technology in Interior Design from BCIT in Burnaby. Coming from a creative family—an architect father and a graphic design instructor mother—art and design have always been a part of my world.
During my years in school, I also spent a decade working on the front lines with marginalized and addicted communities in Vancouver and Victoria. This work gave me a deep understanding of the importance of self-care and mental well-being, but it also took a personal toll. Through my own healing process, I found myself drawn back to art as a tool for reflection and restoration. Merging my background in the arts with my technical drafting skills, I began illustrating tarot decks that emphasize self-care and personal growth. These decks blend bold, graphic design with supportive, introspective messages, offering a practical yet meaningful approach to self-reflection.
My journey into jewellery design came as an extension of this creative exploration. Under the mentorship of Gabriola-based jeweller Nina Turczyn of Paprika Design, I honed my skills in traditional metalsmithing, working with silver and gold to bring my visions to life. Inspired by my own artistic path, as well as the structural precision of my father’s architectural work and the bold simplicity of my mother’s graphic design, I developed a signature style that balances organic forms with refined detail. Following a period of healing from front-line traumas, I felt motivated to create a line of jewellery that was not only beautiful to look at but also felt otherworldly—pieces that evoke a sense of magic, connection, and timeless elegance.
Whether through tarot or jewellery, my work is about creating intentional objects that inspire self-reflection, empowerment, and a deeper connection to oneself. Each piece is crafted with the belief that art, in all its forms, has the power to heal, transform, and bring a little more beauty into the everyday.
